Detailed page coming soonWhat "A-rated" actually means
AM Best assigns financial strength ratings on a scale from A++ (Superior) down to D (Poor). For annuity buyers, the rating reflects the carrier's ability to pay claims — i.e., honor the guarantees inside your contract. We focus on carriers rated A- or better. State guaranty associations provide an additional backstop up to state-specific limits, typically $250,000 of annuity value per insurer per owner.
How to choose between carriers
- Rate: Compare guaranteed APY (MYGA) or cap/participation (FIA) for the same term.
- Financial strength: A- minimum; A or better preferred for long terms.
- Surrender schedule: Shorter schedules and lower charges give more flexibility.
- Free withdrawal provisions: Most contracts allow 10% per year penalty-free after year one.
- Income riders: If lifetime income is the goal, the rider terms often matter more than the headline rate.
